Getting propane filled at Captain's Club in San Carlos, Mexico

Heading out tomorrow, pointed South, provisions bought & stored, tanks full (thanks Doug & Linda for making the propane happen — you guys have been just the best, and we will miss you!!), forecast favourable…

God willing, we’re not pulling in until it’s warmer!! It’s been dubbed “Operation: Latitude Reduction” and I think that’s fairly apt 🙂  If it all goes according to plan, this will be our longest passage yet, a chance to try out the new main, maybe crack out the spinnaker, bake some bread, read some books, remember how to sail… all that good stuff 🙂

See y’all in a lower lat!

    • Hi Bridget — you don’t even know how happy it makes me to have someone comment on the jerry can covers — I worked hard on those suckers!! In the end I cut two long skinny rectangles that were just larger than the side of the jerry can, and rounded the top of one end (so it looks like a grain silo). Then the middle piece is just a giant rectangle, a little wider than the front of the jerry can and long enough to seam up to the tall skinny rectangles. [gosh it’s hard to describe patterns using only words!!] I stitched all that together and then cut the little hand-holds out at the end, and added trim.

Honestly, hand-sewing the trim on the hand-holds was the most time consuming part of the whole operation!! But it’s a good on-watch project, since you can do it with a hand-needle and thread 🙂 I’m not 100% happy with the hand-holds yet… I think I need to keep working on that design part… but they do a nice job of protecting new jerry cans!!

GOOD LUCK and send me a link if you end up making any!!
