Paradise in Alamos: Hotel Colonial

Now that we’re settled back in Topolobampo, let me tell you a little more about Alamos 🙂 I’d never heard of this small “Pueblo Magico” (magical town) until we re-connected with old sailing friends, Kelley and Janet, and discovered that they were running a boutique hotel there.

Where is Alamos? About 3 hours out of San Carlos, where Brio will be for the summer

Being the generous souls that they are, they invited Jon and I to come up for the weekend. Hot water? King-size beds? No shrieking rigging in the middle of the night? Yes, please!

I’ll let the pictures do the talking:

It had been 12 years since I had last seen Kelley -- but it was like no time had passed at all! A testament to the strength of friendships made at sea 🙂

Is that a horse-drawn carriage?? Of course! How else are you supposed to arrive in the ballroom?

It was just cool enough at night to light a fire in our room's fireplace

One more shot of the ballroom... taken from the rooftop terrace. Can you tell I liked the idea of a ballroom quite a lot?!?

Kelley just finished building this beautiful spiral staircase, that takes you up to the rooftop terraces

This is proof that we did manage to drag ourselves away from the hotel 🙂

Alamos - Sonora Cowboy

The town of Alamos is incredibly charming too -- the streets are filled with Sonoran Cowboys (the real deal) like this one here, catching a quick nap on the street corner.

The church square and park ~ another beautiful space in Alamos

As much as we love being by the ocean, this small town had a very magical pull of its own. Kelley and Janet have created a little haven of beauty, one of those wonderful spaces where you can instantly feel at home, and the combination of the wonderful architecture, friendly locals, great plaza food (tacos, hot dogs, etc), Kelley’s famous cappuccinos and Hotel Colonial itself ensure that we will absolutely be back!!

Thank you again Kelley & Janet!!

  1. oooh, absolutely gorgeous! I wanna come play there! Is the hotel open or are they still putting it together? Does it have a name? I may have to take a trip there in the future!
