“20 years from now, you will regret more the things
you didn’t do than the things you did”
Leah you have a dream. A big dream. And you’ve got absolutely no clue how you’re going to get there… how to save more money than you’ve ever seen, how to choose a boat that will carry you safely but also tug at your heartstrings as you row out to her at night, how to make a long distance relationship work for yet another year… I know you’re stressed. I know I’m stressed! I don’t have answers, I barely have ideas, but I do have hope. I think mostly you need to start acting… just start moving and the burning focus you have will help you move in the right direction.
And remember that sometimes the act of “doing” comes with the pain of paying. But one day, I promise, you’ll look back and smile at the memory of struggling through tough times to eventually get to where you are. Anything worth doing is worth working for, right?
And if you have to work, make it good work. No one on their death bed ever said “I wish I’d worked more” — so why not hunt down work that you enjoy, that you’re good at, and then cobble together every obscure source of funding you can possibly imagine, do whatever it takes, to find that dream and crush it. Dreamcrusher.
One last thing —
When you’re caught up; when it’s pouring grey Vancouver rain and your bank balance hasn’t budged in three weeks and you’re fighting with your mother; when you feel the sticky tentacles threatening to strangle your last breath; I want you to think of the ways that you’ve been shown life’s fragility (Lisa, Jess, Russ, etc). I want you to wonder “what if there was no 20 years from now?” And I want you to embrace and appreciate every moment, every milestone, every leaf, and every drop that your life has been blessed with… and then get back on your horse and keep being a cowboy.
Sincerely yours,
Leah of Today.
